yup agree with Malk, AMD Bulldozer cant compete...and upcoming piledriver will only improve 10/20% from bulldozer... ...though u can also go for a PhenomII if u want to spare some money, a PhenomII 965 (4x3.4ghz/turbo@4ghz) u can find for 95 Euros and it s imo the best ratio price/perf (u can run all programs and last games with no doubt!) add to this a good AM3+ mobo and for 190 Euro u ll have the mobo and the cpu.....but if u need more power u ll have to spend more and to go on the other side :p
Well, without bashing AMD, Intel is the better choice for anything above ~150€, both performance and power consumption wise. 2500k is a fast and good cpu. If you want to spend less than 200€ and if overclocking is not important for you, you might look for a i5-2300/10/20 instead. Even a i3-2100 for ~110€ (which has just 2 cores + HT) is faster than a FX-4170 in average.
After have look at some test & reviews, I agree with you concerning the advantage of the Intel I series.
I don't care about Processor OC.
Basically, my last hesitation is dual or quad core, the quad are better in game and 3d or conversion applications but not necessary for most DAW applications.
And my main objective with this update is to stabilize my system for audio creation essentially.
So I3 2100 can be a good choice to save money and use it on a SSD drive witch is useful for loading audio samples.
Any memory is good. 55€ is a usually price for (I guess you mean 2x4GB) DDR3-1866. But you won't notice any difference between 1333 and 1866 or 2133 in most non-benchmark situations, so you could rather buy 4x4GB 1333 for nearly the same money. In addition higher memory freqs often require additional voltages to be higher, just to keep that in mind.
That's interesting, I will think of that.
Thx Oliver for those advices ;)

Bulldozer is damn power consuming if you compare to latest Intel processors ! And is perfs are not satisfying too.

That's can be a low cost option, I will check some reviews of that processor.
IE temp directories onto ya old HDD's. This should help keep the performance up on the SSD for longer!
@ LPS -or anyone who can help
- How can i tell my Operating system Drive to put IE Temp Dir's onto my Secondary HDD ?
p.s. i just got an AMD Bulldozer; ****!!!! i wish i read this forum first, but tbh it was very cheap; its powerful and hopefully it should easily covers all of my needs. - I used to praise Intel until i got tired of computers, i spent about 4 years away from them. My current outlook is; if you can get something nice and powerful for cheap, that does what you want it to, then don't look too deep into the pro's and con's and specs. Just turn it on and enjoy it
^^ also note how this advise is applicable to women :)
@ Bl!tz; i have read some of the highly knowledgeable computing comments that you have left, its pretty impressive, but the funnsest thing i read was
Im not a fan of white
^^ craked me up, if i told you about my Rig you would probably never talk to me again :) lol
Thanks all

pffff...i m sure u re happy with it, i find quite stupid to always compare intel & AMD....first thing that must do a PC is to satisfy the guy who bought it...only he know how many $ he have put in and only he know how fast the pc do its tasks...if u re happy with the pc speed and price the rest is litterature
where i was not a FX fan is when u buy the last AMD cpu, expecting an improovement over the phenom and when u dont get it @ same frequencies.....hopefully FX cpus OC higher and hopefully their prices have significantly drop down...so yup to me too it s not such a bad deal
some weeks ago i installed a FX6100, and @ 4.00ghz my sis is fully happy with it, no problem to run anything (games include)
It'll allow me to mount the radiator of the water cooling unit to the top of the chassis so I can pull in air from outside the case which is very nice to see.
The more I look at it the more impressed I get! Very very nice case!
Can't wait to move all the parts across into it tomorrow!
Finally got some time to move my parts into the new case! I happy to report that with a 1Ghz overclock on the CPU it only runs 2 degrees hotter, under load, than a standard clock at idle in the old case.
But my main hesitation come now from the MB, I think to an Asus P8H77-M or MSI Z77A-G43 (nearly the same price)
Why I think to choose Asus, because it's the only constructor who specify the support of the interesting "Intel Turbo boost 2.0" technology (MSI don't refer to that point),
and I cannot find around the net if this technology need a specific MB to work or it's just the choice of the chipset who is involve.
Intel Turbo boost 2.0 is just a new name (available since jan 2011 when S1155 was released) that is usually supported by all mainboards. MSI advertises their own feature, called OC Genie, which raises the clock speed even further. However, this auto-OC is dependant of the number of processor cores in use - the more cores unused, the more MHz you get.
normaly there s no risk, if it s too much the pc will simply not boot or bsod after boot (it should not if this freq is supported by both ram and mobo) running ur ram @ 1600 depend more from the mobo s stock ram setting than from the ram itself, if the mobo is set to run ram @ 1333 u ll have to oc ur ram manualy if it dont boot, reset the bios to stock values (f5 to reset and f10 to save if i remember well ) if it s not enough u must push the reset button on ur mobo , or if there s no button move the reset jumper & remove the bios battery (la pile du bios) for 30 seconds...and re-move the jumper to its original position
what model is your mobo finaly? MSI or Asus ?
edit:it s weird because both mobos u ve linked some post ago should run the ram @ 1600 from stock....Malk and LPS might be able to help you...lol...i m a AMD freak and i have limited experience on intel stuff ...the more evolved intel cpu i touched is a q6600...omg...

Not at that speed, that's more like 2000+ with sandy bridge cpus and is also dependant of the mainboard. Ivy bridge allows higher max clocks and also finer mhz adjustments.
1.65V RAM is just older than S1155, originally designed for S1156 or AM3 which are fine with that voltage. Personally I even run my RAM undervolted (4x4GB / 1.35V).

my mobo is on my rig lol , Asus P8h77-M, it's my first Asus and I must admit there is bunch of softs and tuning options, that's interesting ! This MB support the 1600 MHz SDRAM without OC.
Keep in mind that S1155 is designed for 1.5V RAM voltage only. 1.65V can damage your CPU in the long term. Overclocking the RAM won't damage the RAM itself, but it can lead to windows crashes, so do some stability testings first of all. Try to get it working at DDR3-1600 with 1.5V, otherwise keep it at 1333.

Ok, thx for your advises Oliver ;)
But one thing, you speak about overclocking, so why constructors sell their RAM as 1600 MHz while they need overclocking / tuning on MB who support 1600 MHz ? It's looks like a trap

Actually, ivy bridge CPUs like your 3570k support DDR3-1600 officially so it's allright (sandy bridge does so too practically). But yeah there has been always OC RAM around. You can buy DDR3-2133+ or even 2400 - such RAM is capable of that speed but it usually requires CPU and/or mobo tuning.
...if all goes well today I'll have 2 shiny new 660Ti's for my PC wrapped up to go under the xmas tree. The fun will be in hoping someone has two of them for the price I want.
I've seen MSI's for as low as $285 each and the price seems to go up to about $380 for 'tweaked' cards. For costs reasons I'll be keeping it as cheap as possible. If I can't find 2 I might consult the boss(wife) and see if I just got for a 670 for now and get a 2nd one down the track..or just go for a 680...
my pleasure bro, i m sure your wife will enjoy the change my sis is gone from a Q6600 to a FX-6100 and she is very happy (and ...lol....the FX-6100 is crappy compared to a FX-8320 ) damn nice case u ve add to this....with room for a 2 x 120 rad push pull....hm....but ...it s for your wifey!... lolz^^ HF for the assembling
Cheers fpr ya help this morning Uncle, muchly appreciated!! Uncle Bl!tz used his powers of negotiation to convince me to go AMD for my wife's upgrade. My wife's old rig: Intel Q6600, mid range Gigabyte Mobo, 4gig Ram, Radeon 7770, case with ****ty airflow! New rig: AMD FX-8320, Asus M5A99X-Evo-R2 Mobo, 8Gig G.Skill Ripjaws 1600, OCZ Vertex SSD 64gb, 460gtx 'Talon Attack' SLi, Thermaltake Chaser-Mk1 case running Windows 8 pro. This will be a very nice upgrade.
I've given her my 2 460's and I'll be running 2 MSI 660Ti's. They are slightly factory overclocked and should run very nicely!
Admittidly I'm a bit jealous of the wife's CPU etc now...
héhé, nice price m8....wifey just ordered a barracuda 2To for 83 €... i installed a toshiba 2.5" 500go for my nephew some month ago, it works nicely and is surprisingly fast for such a small size..+ it is very silent
Post Purpose: I would like to buy a CPU Cooler/ + Fan
Reason: Apex is destroying my CPU [made a cube 128x128x128 with over 1000 Apex chunks and 1000 of these in UDK mightve been a bit much LOL]
Request: Please Leave your recommendations below.
Aim: To get back active with my old skills tenfold and produce some unique content for fun
Thanks all
p.s. i still sign in first in UT3 everytime- my pc is so nice but needs a boost and some and compressed air. - im trying to find the original apex documentation for ut3 but cannot find it- any help would be appreciated
aircooling: noctua 9 or 12 cm models are all nice and performs well, if u have lot of room go for a 12 cm model and if u have a small case the NH-U9B SE2 is top notch! u can find many other good ones from other manufacters of course like phantek....ACooling,Zalman,thermaltake,Scythe,Enermax and many others...got a noctua NH-U9B SE2 here running silently 24/7 since more than 2 years now....0 problems watercooling closed loop like corsairH80 or Antec 620 & 920 (simple radiator) watercooling closed loop like corsair h100,h100i or h110 are nice too (double radiator) watercooling kit : XSPC 750 raystorm kits are unbeatable on pricing/efficience...
if u dont plane to badly OC your rig i d recommend a lil noctua ;)
For CPU's, I don't OC so the stock cooler is enough for me
For a sound card, it depend what's your aim ? A audiophile card (for true hi-def audio), mixing card (for audio mixing, dj'a alike), gaming card (sound blaster alike), even the common onboard card (soundmax, realtek, etc) do the job enough for general listening / gaming so if you want to buy something better, you must specify your needs
Same thing for speakers, what will be their first purpose Music, gaming in 2.1 or more (5.1, 7.1), etc.

im looking at the Edifier 5.1 + possibly a cheapy Creative ZxR- summin sound card, - i say cheapy - but im sure it will do the job. - any thoughts?
- 5.1 is a must - i should probably be in the amp/ deck forums since my needs cover DJ stuff aswel. - Basically; im not an audiophile but i have a strong appreciation for sound
My intentions for use := 1. Sound creation/ making tunes + mixing - soem music - but alot of sound effects 2. My insane music collection, mainly cd's + obviously digital tunes. - collected from DJ'ing 3. maybe even some DJ'ing again - but not in the clubs, just jamming with the other DJ's
- also i am not a millionaire- so i do not wish to throw money away. LOL :), but i would like to see this THX on a PC, 5.1 [capable of quality sound - not just a stupid W sub], and i suppose the highest frequency range possible would be nice- irrelevant of humans incapability to recognize these
- its getting warmer so a nice system for summer BBQ's outside would be cool too

not seen any picts and not heared any feedback! how does the AMD rig work? compared to yours... for current tasks? for gaming?
please bro share your feelings....even if it s more crap than crap
Later = All of my Re-chargeable batteries have died just when i went to take the image LOL :( - it prompted me to buy a new camera- i have not bought one yet, but i am looking- for now take this old crappy image :) - any one know a good quality cheap camera for better textures ?? - im think sony w60 is cheap and probably ok - any ideas?
