it s sometimes very usefull to know what kind of specifications have your mates materials: it s a good way to share infos & experience or to ask some feedback before to buy some parts.
AMD or Intel ? Nvidia or ATI ? XP, Linux or W7 ? Dual or Quad ? OC or not ?

I'll be building up 3 identical PC's for relatives over the next few days.  PC's will be for 'lite' gaming but should run nicely none the less. smile

Here's the specs;

Core i7-860
ASUS P7P55D-LE (or Gigabyte P55-UD3) mobo
4Gig Gskill DDR3 1333
XFX Radeon 5770 1Gb
1TB Samsung Hdd
Pioneer 218 DVD Burner
ThermalTake Armour+ mx case
Antec EarthWatts 650w PSU
Win7 Home Premium 64bit

I'll benchmark one once they are built and post the results!

NEXT DAY EDIT:  Faark...I can't believe how hard it is to get 3 identical gfx cards n mobo's.  Here in SA I can't get any 4870's, 4890's which are in the price range I wanted.  5770's were also hard to get but I managed to get 2 and got 1 5750.  With the mobo's I got 2 P55-UD3's and one UD3R.... Ram I got was Kingston as I can't get GSkill RAM in 1600 or 1333.... disbelief
...but atleast I can now build them....

There are some differences, like the tri-channel memory controller and extra 16x PCI-E slot for the 920. I also believe the 920's OC a lot better as well.

Yup, but they are still differences compared to the 1156 socket processors/Mobo's.
Just a shame that games don't benefit from the tri-channel memory. cry

Get your dual channel memory!

To bad newer games don't take full power of that.

Bane, Did you have issues using memory slots 1 and 3 on your Mobo? If not good on ya! thumbsup.gif
Three UD3's that I've worked on now all refuse to boot if memory is sitting in slots 1 and 3. The new F5 BIOS doesn't fix the issue either.
I've seen this mentioned on a few sites as well and it appears to be with rev 1.0 boards.

looks good m8.....if it s not to fight on bench with intel chips this PC can cream all existant games on high settings smile.gif
Actually AMD & INtel last quad are rarely in troubble to run something already existant and if u dont have "special use or attemps" they are all surpowered:
i mean u dont see a difference while playing UT3 if u use fps stock limitations smile.gif
....honnestly there s no reason to spend 30% to 50% more to get same results...except if it s a luv story between ya & intel....AMD rules on prices and i m 100% satisfed with my phenom

This is what i admire UT3 maps on ;)

Coolmaster case. (its a model copy afaik)
Antec 550W power supply
AMD 64x6000+ 1MB L2 Processor 3Ghz (OC to a max of 3.15Ghz)
4GB Corsair 800Ghz RAM
ASUS M3A AMD2+ Dual Motherboard
Western Digital 7200rpm 160GB Hard Drive
Lite On 20X DVD etc
512GB Geforce 9800GT Graphics Card (also OC but nothing radical)
ASUS copper cooler
LG2252TQ 22" monitor
My current Razor mouse

I would like to replace my gfx card with a nvidia260 at least but no way can i afford it atm and I would probably need a psu upgrade as well now given its almost a couple of years old and their efficiency reduces with age. I have a craptop as well :)
