Got it working now. Not sure what got it working though. One of two things. I said yes on some forum thread about accepting the terms and conditions. Otherwise the more likely fix is... My default browser hadn't logged into forums.unrealtournament.com when the launcher was launched. I primarily use IE for web browsing but have FireFox set as the default browser so things like BF4 run OK. I opened FireFox, logged into the forums then opened the launcher and it appeared.
Yeah the log in on the launcher needs to be improved. I haven't had any problems in a long time but other people in the forums have. Still early days yet.
... Did you get a chance to try DM-Temple? Had a few matches on that last night and it feels so Unreal-y even in its early form!
...
just tryed that map...i was mixing with DM-sidcastle...both are nice and remind me DM-Barricade with like u said a very nice unrealish smelling...even the game looks exacltly like in my dreams on the "mooves, control & weapons" side....maps geometry is top notch....cant wait to see all this textured and how it will change visually....with my fingers secretly crossed that it will not impact how"simple & efficient" it is now
damn good game, probably the best UT so far , all feels so right....even if i m still missing the shield gun and the double dodge+jump....but no no no i ll certainly not complain

I'm still missing the double jump but that is partly because I'm still playing UT3. I wish it would boost you up just a little higher. I don't think I'm liking the vertical weapon bar in the new HUD. Just posted THIS in the forums.
A new UT is the best Christmas present ever though .
what i really like is that u dont feel as "heavy" as in UT3, i prefer more mooves like in UT2k4....what is weird is that UT4 will have less moves than UT3 and even with that handicap i m more comfortable with it.....even after a few games only about the vertical weapon bar i agree with you....horizontal is more intuitive, in hawken they did us the same kind of **** by changing the hud.....99% of the users did complain.....they never backed it up.....lets see how this will happen on a game develloped by users and devellopers together....is it the communication key to a successfull game ?
well.....i have to say: i didnt had so much fun playing UT since ages ago....even with crappy bots with a crazy alpha AI....the DM-Stock-maps , the CTF-Face remake , the weapons are so right!! all works like expected this time, the shock combos are exactly as accurate as in UT2k4 , the Flak is aiming right! the link gun secondary is lethal and gives to the gun some power to fight the others
my fav map is DM-deadfall, it s UTish....like all the maps in fact....and now.....hm....lol....i m really tempted to buy the fraqn engine to revamp morpheus3 and to build a DM or CTF spacey map....dunno if i will resist for long

Resistance is FUTILE!! You will be assimilated by the new UT . Check out my site for mindblowing pics of the new shock rifle if you haven't seen it yet. They didn't release a new build today but hopefully the high poly shock will be in a build soon!
i ll have to try to change the bot skill level because mines actually just suxx....got beaten a few times for the first matches but now they quite never kill me, i m probably on a too low skill level, i changed the number of skill level a few times up n down but i didnt notice any change.....i probably did something wrong somewhere
oh...hm...i...recently...spended 19.90€ ....lol...and now i m lost in that new ed, didnt find the generic browser for now and missed some commands but succeded to do the job by "drag-and-drop" textures from a sort of mini browser to a selected surface.....well... a player start , a light point , a cylinder to stand on and....LOL @ the stock gun when u press the "play" button....WHAT KIND OF WEAPON IS THAT ?? send plastic bullets on your own feet +.+
i have some questions: are the tutos included usefull? even for an old frog ?if you dont want to pay each month, what s the manip to stop the process after one month ? thx in advance for ur answers
@Martin: futile was the right word indeed
@Mick:lol.....what do u mean by "bastardly"?....retarded or sneaky ?
There's a bunch of official tutorials which are quite good! I recommend starting here: docs.unrealengine.com/latest/INT/Videos/Player/index.html These tutorials will show you the interface and how to use it. In the engine launcher grab all the free stuff of the marketplace, especially the "Content examples"! (warning, if you have internet download quotas make sure you don't blow them. Total downloads will be around the 20gig mark)
One of those earlier tutorial packs get's you to build an office in the engine. I found this tutorial very handy!
To cancel your subscription just log into the unreal engine site, on your last day for the months subscription, and click cancel subscription. Just make sure you have grabbed any updates and free market stuff first. After you have cancelled your subscription you can keep using 'your current downloaded version' of the engine until a later date where you subscribe for another month to get all the updates.
The UT core files are a different matter. Unfortunately I don't have time atm to explain it all but here's a quick rundown on the process, from what I remember: Go to Github and create and account using the same email address at you used for UE4. You then have to log into the unreal engine site and I think there's a link there somewhere to setup a Github account. After that go to Github and install their client software and link Unreal engine to your Github account. (can't remember how atm) You then use their client software to pull down the UT source files to your local PC (about 9gig all up). For myself the GUI method always fails so I have to do it via the git bash prompt. Next install Visual Studio express on your PC. You then go into the local UT repository and dbl-click one of the UT source files. This should ask you to compile it in Visual Studio, which you do! (sometimes you have to do a full compile within Visual Studio itself) After that's all completed you can then launch the UT project file directly and it will launch the UT project in UE4. Once in select "Make New Level" and you can start making maps.
Hope that all helps!
I'll have to say, I'm getting used to the new engine now and really like it! If ya running dual screens you can move all the detail tabs to the second screen so the primary screen is less cluttered, which is handy.
An interesting thing to note. While the official 'public alphas' don't allow it, through the editor I can launch UT and play it in VR via the Oculus Rift. It's very interesting in VR! ;)

thx a lot mates , lot of usefull infos here....not sure to understand what u say with the UTCore....u mean i cant start a map without that?....euh.....because i just have started one....i hope i ll be able to reopen it .....do i need to grab thoses core files? i dunno what they are in fact...source code?
By UT Core I mean the source files for the UT project. You can start a map in UE4 without it however you'll have none of the UT assets/blueprints. Pretty much you can only create a BSP shell with custom assets and blueprints. (although you could copy the umap file into the UT project later on make it a new UT map) Basically the 'UT Core' is the UT project folder for Unreal Engine 4. Maps created within the UT project will have access to all 'official' UT content that Epic and the community have created so far. (eg... like weapons, pickups and jump pads) Effectively what you do is you mirror the UT project from Github to your local PC then you compile it in Visual Studio and then open it up in the UE4 editor and start mapping.
NOTE: I have found the Github BASH prompt much more reliable for syncing new UT builds. On my PC the GUI version wipes my local mirror of UT for some dumb reason.

The Git GUI always fails for me too. Another alternative to Github BASH, is TortoiseGit with shell integration. Once installed, you can just right click on the UT folder and do a "pull" to sync files. It will ask for your Git user and password, then it will sync with Epic's Git repository.
B, remember that you're really getting the entire Unreal Engine tool when before, we had a modified UE tool that had all of the UT project files built in (there are still rumors floating around they may do this for UT4 at some point). With your UE4 license, you can basically build an entire game (not mod) from scratch. For now, as LPS said, you have to download the UT4 "project" and open it up.
The whole thing is a bit of a pain but UE4 is definitely the way to go. It's quite awesome. I really do believe that at some point they will do a special UT4 version of the editor but right now, it's too early yet. The $20 and cancel method is a great way to start learning the editor though.
Even if you cancel your subscription, and can't access the UT files, you can still build in a map in the project and when you feel like it down the road, you can turn on your subscription and sync with the project for a month to get updated.
FYI, I can still access the UT project files for some reason even after I cancelled my subscription and the current month has run out. Not sure if that is a glitch or not. When Epics UT team updates to the next UE4 version, that's when I'll be hosed.
slowly installing all the stuff, visual studio took hours to install, by luck it s done now, i already linked my epic account and the github one....tommorrow next step...this whole process is very complex, probably nice to discourage newbies to enter mapping during the alpha...and ....lol....i m a noob !...but like said Martin....resistance is futile !
The subscription is a pain. I'll be building up a new gaming rig soon....and just realized I'll have to re-subscribe before I can install the editor again...

cool! dont tell me that your system is already obsolete ? it should still kicking badly ! just for the fun to build something new or really limit on some tasks ? to me except the last 9xx nvidia cards and perhaps the DDR4....i dont see a lot of new things on the hardware side....i ll probably be waiting for the next gen of AMD cpus but lol nothing seems to be planed for at least the next two years +.+
My oldest son's PC(Q6600 system) is becoming troublesome these days so I'll be upgrading and giving him my PC, minus one gfx card which will go into my youngest son's PC. I do have a budget to stick to so I've worked out the following components to fit the budget! I'll be upgrading to an i7-5820 watercooled with a H100i, ASRock x99-Extreme4 mobo, 16gig G-skill red DDR4 2400, Gigabyte G1 gaming 980gtx and a Samsung 850 Pro SSD. The plan is to overclock the 5820 to 4.2Ghz, which should be fine for this processor. Apparently this G-skill red ram also overclocks quite nicely as well. Will also water cool my wife's AMD CPU as I'm tired of hearing the noise from the stock fan, everytime she plays any game. I may hold off a week or two before I get the 980 to see what's being released in February, however I believe it'll just be the 960 range. Not interested in going SLi this time around. Currently my 2nd 660Ti isn't being used due to my usage of the Oculus Rift. I'm also aware that the new Radeon 3xx cards are due out shortly and their performance will be very nice...however...every Radeon card I've been involved with these last 3 years has had varying issues to the point where I just cannot recommend Radeon cards to anyone. It's either the hardware is flakey or the drivers are crap. I find nvidia hardware much more reliable and their drivers **** all over AMD's drivers and I haven't had any issues with nvidia hardware for the last 5 years!

completly agree with you, i did only one try on the AMD side about gfx with a 6950 (asus) and yup i had a lot of drivers issue and was frustrated about the physX....+ cherry on the cake it died after 8 monthes by luck amazon refounded it to me and i jumped on nvidia back....btw , last PC i ve revamped (one week ago) was with a single GTX 970, it was on a i7 PC from a friend of mine, that 970 is one of the most impressive card i ve seen so far, and not only about performances, even pricing was decent and waoo, it s no more heating like on all top nvidia cards GTX x70 and GTX x80) i found this MSI for 315€ 2 weeks ago...
nice project!... indeed, it will refresh "your" PC
My son doesn't know he's getting mine yet so I think he'll be very happy when he finds out! Regarding Radeon drivers... (while running dual screen) can you have a windowed game running, on one screen, and watch a youtube video on the other yet? Doing this always causes issues with the two Radeon cards I got for my kids...

haha... i cant tell, i never used more than 1 screen but i must say i m tempted to try this for mapping sure your son will be happy , 660ti are really nice cards and they still giving very good fps ,even with recent games....largely enough to run 1920x1080 or less....cool gift
my son have my old 660ti and is very happy with it, my daughter is still using my very old GTX285 superpipe...lol...and she seems happy with it...in fact everyone s happy in thoses "transactions"

lol.....i had to do a pause in my install because of work surcharge....yeah.....relaxing fragging sessions required !
i played a lot DM-Temple and wanted to tell to Martinthat this map is now my favorite...it is so UTish! not only the barricade looking, but the layout is fantastic, in fact to appreciate it you seriously need to learn it! so many complex jumps to do there...
....oh...did someone serioulsy tried to play a TDM with bots???? i played 5 TDM ondifferent maps and each time the whole teams regroup under lifts or are queuing together in little corners....well or i m missing something or the AI simply dont work for now ....i can thanks em for the good laugh at least
Maul, Go into the Marketplace for UT4 and there's another free meshed out level called Lea Observatory.
Haven't tried it yet...as I ran out of space on my old SSD, so I'm re-downloading to another drive...can't wait to check'em out!

Yeah I had been following the progress on Lea. I got it off the Marketplace last night. It looks beautiful but a tad dark for my old eyes.
Not sure if you guys have been playing much lately but the latest build feels very snappy with the strafe speed fix.
Also I've been running a Hub for quite a while now and it seems to be getting more stable with the latest builds. Feel free to join in :). I know its far for some of you guys but the ping comp works pretty well. I was able to make some "gametypes" that allow you to start an instance with a single player so you don't need to wait for someone, you can jump in and start off against a bot.
cool , i m going to do another try tonite, dunno wtf but the epic launcher works like a **** here....it launches, then stops and tells it cant find a compatible version of.....the launcher itself +.+
here s what i have when i try to launch anything via the.....launcher
i have this since a very long time now, same with at least the 6 last versions of the launcher.....no idea why and no fix, even a complete uninstall didnt do the job.....lol...really not easy to map and play this beta....i m probably too old....haha
yeah bro , i think i ll have to do so....tbh it s like if something decided to make the new UT just like a pain inzebutt for me....all is hard, mapping , betatesting and even simply playing the game....it was working like a charm first ....then....nightmare....lolz
3 days back I played the latest alpha in VR via the Oculus Rift! Pretty wild stuff. The control via VR movement, mouse n keyboard is a perfect blend and works very well!
The final weapon models in the game sit nicely where your mouse hand is and they move perfectly with your head movements. Can't wait to see more detailed maps!

thanks a lot my friend....it s funny that u propose this to me because it failed to install the game another time yesterday and my plan was to seach for a solution today....by luck... i have solid friends to help me

Cool. Hopefully you can get it going. The game is really coming along. The Sept 18 build is going to be huge (new female char, new meshed maps) so you want to be up and running for that.
lol yeah it suxx....DSL....limited.....at the end of the line with more and more neightbours between "me" and the main node.....but what is frustrating is that they already installed the fiber but never connected it....3years.....i still cant believ this
something interresting i was suspecting and i just have verify it: new UT dont like SLI
each bench shows the GTX670 in SLI leading on one single GTX 780.....except UT for example on outpost: with the sli ,even with all setting on "high" and no AA i was having big drop down and fps wasnt nice....now all on "Epic" & with AA.... all is running very smoth, stable , fluid and FPS very high
i bet they re going to optimise the game for the SLI ... for now it s not top
...i was telling to me that the game was nice but wow on Epic setting with AA it s one step higher, very impressive
