I wanna make a animated mesh for my last work (a map for UT2k4)
It 's just for the deco. I wanna make an animatedtentacleof asquid (or a octopus).
I tryed to do something with Blender. That's not easy because i am discovering. Mb, it's not a good way. But i could see there are bones (or squeleton) for a animated mesh.
If you have some link for some tuto to make my animated or any explanation or the different step to make my animated.
I made my squeleton and my mesh. I imported in unrealEd. But the result is very crappy. The mesh is really ugly and distorded. Probalbly my mesh is too small. I need more tries.
After, i need read the malka's link. Mb, i'll find a solution.
Any news on this? Blender bones are somewhat different from UE bones. they are more like the joints and it's parent/child relations (those dotted lines) are bones in the unreal engine. This is probably the reason for all the issues.
Have you tried using your skel mesh in UT3 or UDK just to see if its looking the same there?

I thought to import my anim into ut3, but i gave up. I don't know why. Mb because, i am affraid of the UnrealED 4.
I should try it.
Now i made bigger mesh. But the result is the same.
In fact, i don't think the problem come from the bones or ... i should fail something. My bone moves outside of the mesh when the animation works. I don't know if it's a problem. I 'll probably add a vid of the result to show you how it is crappy
Bones outside of the mesh is no problem I think. You can upload a blender file if you want to and me or someone else will take a look at it. Size can be a problem indeed due to precision errors, but that's for really small models like 1x1x1 unreal units for example. However this is UE3 experience, perhaps ut2k4 needs bigger meshes.
