time to sold my sli of 9800GTX+(if i want to get some money for em haha^^)....like each year with my phone subscription a lil gift; this year i had to add 49 euros but i m quite happy to upgrade for a single gfx (powaaa consumption:p) here s the new one ;probably a bit less powafull but i hope i ll not be too disapointed :
That'll be a nice card and it'll run quikker than your 9800 SLi setup M8!
There should be no problems using your 8800 as a physX card. Just don't use the SLi connector and tell the drivers to use the 8800 as a dedicated physics card!
The whole PhysX dedicated card is an interesting topic. For a while people were buying Radeon cards to run their GFX while using old 8800/9800's to run physX....Then sometime last year Nvidia decided to put a stop to that and 'tweaked' the drivers so you could only have a dedicated physX card if you had another primary NVIDIA card running your gfx. A bit stupid really as Nvidia could have the best of both worlds, by having their cards in systems powered by Radeon's..but as usual money talks...
...there's probably some physX driver hack that may get around the issue though...
did u try the 275GTX-Sli alone and than with the 9600GT/PhysX in add to have an idea of the difference? and what kind of improovment doeas it bring to ur system? FPS; bench...speed?
just curious
not really a surprise to see that ATI & Nvidia "arent allowed" to work together; imagine :"oh yes my 500 $ ATI card works really better since i va add a 65 $ Nvidia card for PhysX..."...lol^^buisness rules of course :p
I had the 275's in SLi and an 8600 doing physics. Admittidly it didn't seem to make much difference, but I sorta put that down to the fact the 8600 was really an entry level card for physics. Eventually I pulled the 8600 out due to heat issues inside the case. (those 275's can get quite hot!)
ok i have install the new gfx + the PhysX one ;result is exactly the same on 3dmark (17000pts) but in game there s a huge difference: more fludity; more fps;looks like all is more stable and homogen; no more big drop downs even when lot of pp and such things good deal
