That's only a part of the whole picture though. Look at the pixel fillrate and memory bandwidth on the 460. GPU clocks are slower but with double the ROP/shader units the 460 is more efficient and therefore much quicker even at a slower clock. Same with memory bandwidth - a slower clock but with much higher bandwidth.
tbh they are some nice improovement from one to the other:
-65nm vs 40nm -512mb vs 1024mb -ddr3 vs ddr5 -dx10 vs dx11
if im not sure about the dx & ddr improvement; 40nm works colder than 60 and the memoryjump allow biggest screens for the frequencies u can compare them only on same materials; here a G92 in65nm and a GF104 in40 are imo not comparable but i agree with you mate; it s only a buisness story and thoses who did the jump from the 8xxx to the 9xxx seriesknow that more than others; that s why i always wait the next generation to buy the previous one (u can watch several charts & bench; bugs are mainly fixed; drivers are addapted and updated & prices are acceptable)
from what i have read a 460 is comparable to 2x9800gtx+ or 1x275GTX or a 9800GX2 depending of the oc & cooling and the manufacter
For a dual card solution, go for the 6850's and not the 6870's. 6850's will cost about $450ish, whereas the 6870's will cost $600ish. The 6850 crossfire setup will play everything you need so you won't need to spend that extra 150 bucks on the 70's!
As a single card they perform around the same, with either of them beating the other depending on the test used. In a single card solution though the 460 is more attractive with physx support. In dual setup the blistering speed of the 6850's pretty much negates the physx support of the 460's. IMO If AMD do a good job on the drivers, in the near future, then we should see even better performance!
Yes I'm tempted to switch back to AMD cards with those speeds! Mid December will be an interesting time!
Regarding slower clocks on newer cards(cpu's as well) is perfect sence. The newer hardware can process more information at any given time, so higher clocks aren't necessary to perform faster than old tech.
Apart from that I'm picking up the new NFS game tonight..looking forward to giveing it a good run l8r on!

Some stuffs still not logical to me but you right ;)

of course ;)
I just discover that I cannot put 2x 9800 gtx in sli, my MB just support ati "cross fire", damn !!

Interesting stats! Normally the 6850 should be quikker so I wonder if physics are making the difference? The 460s are brilliant cards and I'm very happy with mine!
