Ok, I was working on CTF-Venom today, which is my primary map project from now. As we speak I did the following just a hour ago:
1. I just imported 130 custom textures. Nothing wrong after that. Saved the package in my documents folder. Nothing is wrong.
2. I had a made a simple square room from around 1200z x 2000y x 2000x i think. I used the Geometry tool to cut each wall in 8 pieces for some texture variation. I did the same for the floor,
and here it went wrong. After that, my CPU went nuts. I couldnt even reach the last 2 geometry splits >.< As im writing this my RAM is doing okay and is still steady around 3GB. Im trying to build my map but my CPU goes 100% all the time and I think my editor froze from that point.
And idea's? Could this be because of the geometry splits? It happens every time when I build the map. There are no hard lightmapps, NO static meshes, just a few textures on the wall
For the record, I added the room brush first as a complete brush, then edited the blue brush with the Geometry tool.
I have an AMD 3.0 GhZ processor, 4 GB RAM DDR3, Run Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits and a pretty crappy Nvidia Geforce 8400GT graphics card
Seems like there was a process called "Windows Media Player Network Sharing service" which sucks up about 52% of my CPU -.- wtf. Probably after the latest WMP update from yesterday. Immediatly uninstalled WMP after that.

omw to test it now.
Nope, it DIDNT work. I repeat. It did not work.. My CPU still goes nuts when I enter Geometry mode on that specific brush ... strange...

Everything runs fast, EXCEPT for the Geometry mode. When I select an another brush everything is all good again. I might take a long time for my editor to process all the splits in a brush, that should make sense lol. I never did this before actually.
Does anyone know a solution for this? Is there a setting for this I can lower? :)
The WMI service is known to make such problems. You have to set it from 'automatic' to 'manual' (not disable) in the windows services menu. control panel -> administative tools -> services

cheers
Thanks, yeah. I never use WMP, so I downgraded it to an earlier version, killing this service and disable any updates from it.
Still, My Geometry mode doesnt like +30 splits in one brush or something. It goes nuts. Perhaps its just the editor
