Your all time favorite game?

Hi there, since there isn't already a thread like this I decided to start one, of all games you've played which one/s is/are your favorite (PC)

For me it's hard to pick a winner, amongst my favorites are Warcraft 3, Carmageddon 2, Jedi Knight 3 Jedi Academy, UT99, Mass Effect 2, Arkham Asylum, Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D and Flatout 2.

To decide which one I would put as nr1, I have to evaluate the games.

Warcraft 3 - epic storyline but only a handful of the campaign missions are fun, in multiplayer however it's loads of fun and when I get tired of melee games there's a heap of custom non-melee maps to play.

Carmageddon 2 - there's not really a storyline as far as I know but what can be more fun than racing around wrecking cars and running over people? Hah, also a couple of missions that are really fun to play. Had a great time challenging my brother to see who could complete a mission faster. However the multiplayer mode is not good at all. Sadly this game has proven to be quite difficult to play on windows xp, vista and 7. There also seems to be quite a lot of limitations when it comes to configure the keyboard settings for the game. And the graphics, well it's an old game and it does not look very impressive nowadays :P

Jedi Knight 3 Jedi Academy - the storyline is good not perfect, but the singleplayer is quite possibly the best I've ever played. The mission where you're in some giant cave tomb or whatever is amazing, colored by blue/cyan crystals, great architecture well the game is quite old now but this particular level is still stunning despite the aging graphics. The multiplayer mode is fun, atleast when you're only allowed to use the lightsaber and not force grip and there are still a few populated servers.

UT99 - Singleplayer is decent, heck the final level with Xan is even a bit scary! and definitely challenging (the first of the four maps against the robot guys is a tiny bit more challenging though imo), most of the maps are good and there are a few different modes that are fun to play. Multiplayer, this is where UT99 really shines, some negative points though, the game is a little tough to learn (me playing vs friends proved to be extremely easy since they had played it much less than me). The weapons also tend to be a bit unbalanced, the sniper is a bit too good and the bio rifle is definitely underpowered. Graphics are a bit outdated now but for it's time it is great.

Mass Effect 2 - I love the story, there's plenty of variation to the environments which all look freaking awesome! I love how the decisions you make affects the result of the final mission. The weapons are well made and fun to use, although the shotguns tend to be extremely underpowered (I know they are supposed to be good only in close combat, but even then other weapons are way better) and the auto sniper is a overpowered (I pretty much used this weapon through the entire game, might have been different if I had played on a harder difficulty). Some negative points, I got stuck on a couple of levels and had to restart them. Sending out drones to get minerals was boring. Most of the crew members specific missions felt really unnecessary when you have a world to save. There's no Multiplayer mode, I would have loved a Co-op mode here.

Arkham Asylum - I love Batman and this is THE Batman game. Graphics are at least equal to those of Mass Effect 2, it's a shame I played through most of the game in detective mode and therefore missing out on all the amazing graphics. The story is good and much like Nolan's Batman this game is very dark and even scary at some points, I like that. The use of villains is good, I especially loved the Scarecrow challenges, very well made and original :). The Riddler parts was mostly fun aswell, when I played through the game I found all secrets though some might have been hidden a little too well. When I had finished the game I found out that there was a challenge mode aswell, I tried some of it but I didn't find it to be very fun.

Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3D - It's a bit outdated but it is still very fun, a bit too easy if you're only going for completing all the missions. But plenty challenging to achieve gold medal on all missions to unlock the 3 extra missions (Racing mission, Deathstar trench and Hoth). Unfortunately as Carmageddon 2, this is also not easy to play on XP, Vista, 7. And the graphics are very outdated. There isn't any multiplayer mode, if it had been made today it could definitely had included a co-op mode.

Flatout 2 - The Singleplayer mode isn't very fun, the bowling etc modes are not very fun either. The Multiplayer part of the game however is extremely fun, great tracks for racing and a Derby mode that is almost equally fun. There's a good amount of cars you can play. This game is sadly ported from a console and it's not the best port I've seen, the menu is pretty bad and there are a few bugs you'll probably experience while playing in LAN (like hitting a small thing like a cone with your car and having your car completely thrown off the track and also a very annoying bug that sometime causes a players screen to turn black / white with only the minimap showing. Graphics are pretty good.

To sum up, most of these games lack in either Multiplayer or Singleplayer.

Here's my top 5

1. Jedi Academy (Fantastic Singleplayer and a good Multiplayer mode)

2. Warcraft 3 (The Singleplayer campaign is not the best I've played, the thing that puts this as nr2 for me is the lots and lots of custom maps and the fact that every single one of my friends own this game and likes to play it as much as I do)

3. Mass Effect 2 (Amazing graphics, story and great missions is what puts this as nr3. If it had included a Co-Op mode I might have put this as nr1 instead)

4. Arkham Asylum (Amazing graphics, batman!!!, epic bossfights puts this down as nr4)

5. UT99/Flatout 2 (I cannot decide which game I enjoy most, both games are really great in Multiplayer although my friends enjoy Flatout 2 a bit more. UT99 however has a singleplayer mode that is decent which makes this a tie!)

In case anyone is wondering, UT3 didn't make the list because 1. The singleplayer campaign is very weak and the story is not good 2. None of my friends enjoy this game very much and the ones that do have 0 chance against me 1on1 and I'm not even that good :P 3. The lack of online activity. I do however feel that UT3 is a better game than UT99, 2003 and 2004, the flow is better and the weapons are better balanced.

What's your favorite game/s?

humm... difficult to make the choice, I would said :

1-Quake III Arena
Because it's the first FPS I have played, and it was a shock !
quick gameplay, easy rules, bloody & violent, totally addict to it's announcement voice, in one word, so fun biggrin

2-Halfe-Life 2
Second shock with a game, I have spend 5 days to play that game, I was totally immersed in the game. a good story, and ambient, an AI not bad, powerfull weapons, mechanism, enigmas, all are there for a huge game, and it is !

3-F.E.A.R.
I love it !
definitly the best AI I have had to fight.
Powerfull weapons (damn its shotgun!)
A good story too (enven if it's a bit confusing sometime).
Good immersion on the game with cool sounds and music, visuals effects, thrills everytime etc...and Alma lol

4-UT 2004
This one is my start on mapping, so it keep a special place on my heart.

5-UT3
This one really deceive me when it's come by its content (just about 8 DM maps, and not really cool to play...)
But the Ed is so much better than the ud2 that I have finally dig it lol

I've lost count how many times I've made this very list! :)

My Unshakable list (for various reasons)

1: Warcraft 2 (My first RTS experience forever hooked on Blizz RTSs)
2: Quake 1, 3, Live (The ultimate by the very nature of it's simplicity)
3: UT99 (first proper modding experience)
4: Marathon (my first multiplayer experience)
5: Aliens Vs Predator 2  (Some of the best fun I've ever had in Multiplayer)

Which leads to my desire to work for Bungie, Blizzard, Epic and/or ID at some point in my career

Remarkable games outside of those:

Warcraft 3

Starcraft(1 & 2),

Arkham Asylum: (Never have I had so much fun achievement hunting. Those riddler puzzles were like crack!)

UT2004: Winning prize money playing competitively

F.E.A.R.,

C&C Tib Sun: Became known for the unbeatable eng rusher sub terrainian APC :)

C&C Red Alert 2,

Others that I can't think of off of my head

My all time favorite game list is mostly made up of personally nostalgic titles.

1: Digimon world 1 (PlayStation)
2: MegaMan X (Super Nintendo Entertainment System)
3: UT3 (For the editor baby!)
4: Tetris
It doesn't matter which version, what console, or how old it is; Tetris is and always will be on my top lists of gaming. There aren't many things I have invested more time in besides the editor, of course.
5:Final Fantasy Tactics (PlayStation)/ The Sims 2 (PC)
I can't decide between these two. I'm thinking from a standpoint of which game consumed my life more at one point or another. I love Tactics but I also love the building aspect of the sims.

@Nova: I love the new avatar!
