I have frequently some repports that my maps are too dark.
I have set my monitor with following the utility tool with my GC, but want to know if it was a better way to do that, and how be sure ours settings are the good to everyone who play ours maps.
Well, the best tool I'm aware that is use by professionnals (studios, graphic artists, audio-video amateurs, ect) to calibrate there audio / video system is called Video Essentials. This is a really low cost tool (like 30$ CA) to help you getting out the best of your components & also support all the latest trends & technologies.
You can by it online like Amazon.fr fearly cheap.

Another thing to consider is how you set UT 3 up graphically. I remember when DGUnreal was making his "Out of Gas" map, we discovered that the post processing style (I used vivid at the time) had an effect on the visuals for the maps.

Indeed, all settings a part "default" boost contrast & such which may look good only with some maps. A lot of mappers as complained about those damn PP settings that shouldn't be there in the first place. It's even more problematic when using bright colors like white.
There is plenty of reviews that as been made when the game came out at the time wich some part of the bench was to see the visuals difference in all PP settings & there impact on FPS.
Brief, the "default" PP setting is the best one to use & should always be use by default. This is what all reviewers as stated & personally, I've done my testings & it is indeed the best ;) You can always recommend that to the complaining players along calibrating there monitor.

@Odedge, with using vivid PP, do you find WoodRun or Katami too dark?
I stopped using vivid after that discovery with DGUnreal. Now I just use default. For what it's worth, while Wood Run has a "dark" atmosphere to it, you can still see the bots fine and Katami has no issue what so ever (with the default setting).
