Legacy is an inspired remake of Unreal!(or as much as I cansmile

It's a huge task to undertake so I'd never probably finish it but I plan on attempting the first few levels to see how they turn out and if I'm still enjoying myself I'll keep going until I loose interest. 

First I gotta work out a few things to see if I have the capable skills. (see things I need to learn)

Things I intend to do:

  • It won't be an exact remake in that I'll be using UT3 materials/assets(or custom ones).  Level design will stay true to Unreal but it'll be modernized with a UT3 look!  I'll be making the levels from scratch, rather than importing them from the original game!
  • I do plan on exporting some audio from the original game!  It can't be a remake without the correct soundscape!
  • I'll be using UT3 characters for now... unless some modder with free time wants to make the original models for use in this mod. 
  • UT3 weapons will also be used unless we get originals made up!

Things I need to learn(That I can think of atm):

  • Coding hanging tenticle creatures and flying enemies would be nice..

 If you have info on how to do the above let me know! smile

Beta testing will be done internally to UOF only! 

This mod is designed to only run within Unreal Tournament III!

Looking good so far smile As you said, not a 1 to 1 remake but it has it's own touch.
You plan on doing it just like me, eh? Releasing the first map, see if it is "popular", get to work on the next map. biggrin Keep at it!

Yup, It's a corpse!
Just a skeletal mesh setup as a kasset. What I need now is some pools of blood.

really better in blue, is it the long corridor with the first "serious" opponent? the one where all the lights switch off one after each other?

That corridor is in the 2nd or 3rd level.
Funnily enough, there's no combat at all on the Vortex Rikers map. cry

Hey Mike,

I post your project at my homepage, hoping your thread will be more viewed & hopefully encourage new dudes to register & give ya some feedback biggrin

I can say that scaling & layout look very accurate, meshing is also nice smile

TBH, personally, I prefer the lighting of the original. I never liked strong, to much constrasted colors, no offense m8.

Hey Lord_Porksword,

Just registered on this site to see your progress, got your link from stevelois' site! Brilliant stuff. This is the kind of thing that needed doing a long time ago!

Really great job on the blue corridor, the leaning geometry along with those luminous blue lights definitely sets it off more than the origional yellowy lights.

Keep it up man!

Are those warning displays in UT3 or are they custom?

PS: And how did you make the fog in the airducts? I just can't figure out how to make it, I couldn't find an option for that in the volumes, did they change that? I just can't figure out how to make a fog volume, can't find a tutorial for that... cry

Hey Nice work LPS! I really like the bright colours in your scene.

Its looks good enough to play. With such a large project have you broken your progress into mile stones?  Are you making the levels linearly or some other heierachy?

My plan is to go through each map, until I finish or go onto other things so this will be linear like the original with most of the essentials but some gameplay stuff will changed due my limited knowledge in adding models and animating.

I can't do things like the original Nali Pali people or the giant that you go up against. However I do have some substitutes for this in mind. I have a nice bit of freedom as it's not an authentic remake! smile

How did you do the translator message?
Is it a shape that always face the player like coronas in UE1 and UE2 or is it triggered via Kismet?

Kismet M8, just facing where I know the player will most probably be!
I made a custom material to use on the glass window mesh!
Tip: to have transparency in a mesh use black fortransparency and import the mesh with additive as the material type!

I wonder if you could do it with something like "draw HUD material" in UT2004. This way you could display it as long as you stay in a volume and it would only appear when you press e. That would be probably the best solution.
Oh, and I have the German version of Unreal. I'd have to find out what the original messages are by a long research unless there is a site where I can look it up... or I'll translate it. :(

I suggest you use the non lighned material on the Liandri support, the meshes with various small lights. At least try it & see how it look wink
