I went ahead and done a last minute pre-order of this game as I was able to get it from the UK for $31.....unfortunately the early/leaked reviews don't look to hopeful for A:CM which seems to be averaging a score around 5/10.
I've got Borderland on Steam but it never really could hold an interest and I've been playing Borderlands 2 with a M8 in co-op but I do find it a bit 'Meh' which does stir concern for A:CM seeing it's also made by GearBox. NOTE: I don't hold GearBox responsible for DNF as they only came into it at the tail end of development.(and they wanted a quick buck )
It'll be interesting to see more reviews when the embargo is lifted. Co-op and Multiplayer will hopefully be where it shines...hopefully!
In the end though I'm a big fan of the Alien series so I suspect that I'll be happily blasting away on a Bug Hunt, even if it's like Left 4 Dead but with Aliens!
I'll know fer sure tonight when I crank it up!
-=-=-=-=-=-
In other news, I've been playing "Dead Space 3" and I'll have to say that it's pretty damn good! Good to the point where I recommend it to folk who are interested! The Zero-G areas are very well done(my fav areas of the game so far) and for a console port they done a superb job!
So yes, if you like the 1st and 2nd Dead Space(or either of them) I highly recommend looking into DS3 as it's damn good fun! (especially once you make the shotgun! hint hint)
If anyone doesn't want to see me bag this game...you better stop reading right now!!
WOW...Hate to say it guys but Gearbox dropped the ball on this one. Yes, the reviews are true...this game is...well...err..umm..rather dissapointing...well actually moreso towards the spectrum of not very well done. I may even go as far as saying it's crappy. Yes, you read that right...crappy!! It's a sad day when I feel I need to say that I'm actually ashamed I paid $31 for a game based on Aliens. I am a fooking idiot for chucking some money towards this when I could have gone for something else. This game is so crappy I've stopped playing it, in heavy dissapointment, and here I am writing this right now!!
1X, don't waste your money on multiple copies of this..get Dead Space 3 instead as apparently the co-op on that is pretty good and it's a far far far far far far superior game! (psst DS3 is a far superior game bro! )
What the Hell happened Gearbox?? This game uses the Unreal Tourney 3 version of UE3 with a modified shader apparently. Why tha Hell didn't Gearbox port it to UDK when they took over this game?? I honestly wonder why this was delayed over a year?? What tha hell for?? The UT3 community has come out with far superior work compared to what I've seen so far.
There are some really really really really low quality textures all over the place. I have noidea if maybe something is up with my install, regarding the low quality textures, or what but I hope there is because I'm rather shocked by some of what I've seen.
The AI is rather suspect. The Aliens run into your AI partner and they do a little dance (could be a tango? ) until the Alien is able to move around him and come straight towards you, completly ignoring the AI Marine. THe Aliens also crawl through the walkway railing rather than over it, even though physical size wise it doesn't look right. I got killed a few times by that as I thought "nah an Alien can't fit through the gaps in the railing" well I was wrong...multiple times...
The timing for heart pumping scares is so off that I sat there on two occasions[when my character paused for a couple of secs] and said "what's happening?" [2 seconds later] "Oh this is supposed to be a scary part..um wait a sec...isn't this supposed to be suspenseful???" I still can't work out what happened when the chest burst happened cuz both characters paused then an AI rolls over with a alien hanging outta his chest then suddenly I'm hanging on for dear life on the broken dock bridge..WTF?? It was almost like a chunk of the cutscene was missing or something? Honestly the scariest part I can think of is this crap that Gearbox want to charge us $30 for some Season Pass. Really? for this?? The DLC should be chucked in free of charge as an appology to us purchasers for not getting what was advertised to us!
Honestly I haven't played any Multiplayer so that could be rather fun, but admittidly I don't think this game will stay popular to long due to the above mentioned issues. I will say that I'll replay from the beginning, on an easier difficulty so I don't have to sit through getting killed by a stupid B-lining AI multiple times. I paid $31 for this and I WILL get my moneys worth darnit! psst the bastards slug us Auzzies $80 here...now that's blatent robbery on damaged goods!!
...Just like Duke Nukem...this feels like a 5-8 year old game, not a 2013 game! Just like Duke Nukem it feels that Gearbox did nothing to turn this into the Gem that it could have been! Honestly if they had ported it to UDK and bumped up the textures and done some work on the AI it would be a good game..but why they didn't do this is beyond me??
Why can't someone make a good Aliens game?? Seriously why not?? I really hope the community "comes out of the god damn walls" and mods the hell outta this to make it good!! Maybe folk can rip the alien models out and make maps for it or something??
You guys all know me and I don't think you've seen me talk like I have above. It is all my personal opinion from my experience with the game so far! I really hope this game gets fixed!!
Anyways..enough ranting...

Uh Oh guys! ...looking at the ini's(in a desperate attempt at making the gfx look better) I've discovered some lightmass files. I believe this game is running on UDK?? Wow...even AvP from 2 years back looks better than this.
Time to attempt some MultiPlayer!
EDIT: Post rage thoughts.... Now that I know what to expect, from the game, I replayed from the beginning again and got further into it now. There is some fun gameplay contained within, if you're happy with an on the rails shooter! Co-op may be it's saving feature. There's no multiplayer mode where 4-8 players fend off against AI Alien hordes which sucks. That's probably what Gearbox will expect us to pay for...
Found some more interesting/annoying things. I found Hick's shotgun..which replaced my pulse rifle so now I have two shotguns and no pulse rifle..wtf. I also found if you mess with the ini's the game launches with a setup tab but it quickly hides it. I wonder if there's a way to access that?? Looking at the ini's anstropic filtering is set to 4. I've changed this to x16 but can't really tell if it made a difference. This game is another Rage. There's some well done texturing marred with some very bad texturning...the bad sign of a primarily based console game... The AI in this leaves a lot to be desired...bring on Crysis 3 I say!!

Sorry to hear mate. You might be lucky and find some bad lod settings in the engine.ini, something like LODBias=1 or MaxLODSize=1024 for TEXTUREGROUP_World. I think the .ini AF setting is bugged or not working(when I change it for UDK, it will just crash), so you better force it via gfx drivers anyway.
As the days pass more and more interesting tidbits of info are leaking out.
I have no idea if it's true or not that GearBox didn't even make most of the SP campaign. Roomers are that they outsourced to Timegate to make the Single Player Campaign and that GearBox worked on the Multiplayer side of things! It doesn't matter who worked on it in the end as all parties are responsible for the final product that was sold to us gamers.
Here's an article on the apparent development 'train wreak' as it's been called: Kotaku
What I do know is true though is that I got real excited about this game after watching the press Demo that was shown last year. It looked fantastic with the dark dynamic lighting schemes and the fight with the Aliens, powerloader and eventually the Queen busting in. It all looked very impressive and Randy(GearBox) said this is what the game was like! Admittidly he didn't say this is actual gamelpay so I am one of those fools for expecting that this is what I would be getting....
That said though, it can't be denied that saying that this is what the game will be like had set up an expectation with us purchasing gamers that this is the level of quality(as shown during that presentation) that we should expect from the game once shipped. However the final product is not where near the quality shown. I beginning to agree with a lot of other gamers and press that Gearbox purposely mislead us into what the game was going to be like to increase hype therefore sales.
Here's two articles showing/explaining the difference between what was shown and what was delivered: videogamerescapistmagazine
The 1st video is very interesting as it appears that press demo was either a lie to mislead the public or else it means that everything was dumbed in content and quality for some reason.
Two reasons why the game would have been dumbed down would probably have been to allow the game to run on consoles, therefore punishing the PC platform, or that Sega pretty much demanded that the game had to be released by a certain date wether it was finished or not. In both cases this is rather sad that the industry can work this way... I thought the press demo looked superb with the darker lighting scheme and distance fog everywhere. This alone would have made the game visually much better than it is now. Why the animations appear simplified on the aliens model is rather strange too...
Anyways...I'm waiting to see how Gearbox responds to the criticism over the game and the roomer about the press demo and development details!
I've seen these video comparisons and it's a sad story. If the SP part has been outsourced, they just might have handed over a crappy game (=release version) to gearbox, so that there was a big need to polish and improve the game for preview/demo pruposes. There is no logical explanation why someone would cut down the quality of anims and everything else that much.
I guess with a new post process chain the overall look can be improved a lot. New lights placement and additional effects like all the ground and distance fog will require much more effort though.
Yeah. They need to recook the maps with higher rez lightmaps, better textures(for those materials that need them), reinclude the distance fog and make the lighting scheme darker overall and re-add the dynamic lighting. The lightmaps, textures and fog issues are really quick fixes however a change in lighting would be a much more lengthly job. I have to say though...it really needs to be done so they can get this game up to modern standards... I imagine a 6gig patch comming out in the future lolz!
The visuals aside though...they also need to drastically work on the AI coding..in it's current state it's terrible!!
Now all that said..I'll still play it as I want to see it to the end, not matter how annoyed I am while playing it! However, I refuse to pay for the DLC stuff as this is not the game they hinted that was comming!
