I believe even the downloaded version through steam will be the edited version for us Auzzies. Valve apparently will have a patch ready once they can get around it.. Personally I reckon someone will create a fix, which I'll use. I just hope that steam is a bit relaxed in file version and size checking.

I got a i7-920 on a P6T (not SE) mobo, 4gig Patriot Viper DDR3 1600 spec RAM and dual Gigabyte 275GTX's running 64bit Win7. System runs like a dream! Ya 920 system should keep you very happy, although your vid card will bottleneck the CPU!
I'm also happy to report that Intel are still supporting the 1366 socket with the upcomming CPU's (hint hint 6 cores + HT ) as well.
If anyone is thinking of going for a system using the 1366 CPU's but never plan to use a SLi setup I would suggest an i5 system to save you quite a bit of cash.
The original i7's biggest benefit is the dual 16x PCIE slots yet the i5 will give them a pretty good run for their money with a single gfx setup. Just make sure you get a true quad core and not a dual core with HT. Regarding future proofing expect lower spec CPU's for the 1156 socket, compared to the 1366's when the new CPU's come out. eg.. 6 cores but no HT

Ya main rig should run those games with no probs however ya vid card will be the issue. Get a Radeon 4890 or GF 275gtx with match ya CPU a lot better (without spending a bucket of cash) then you'll be crusin along very nicely with the games you've mentioned! I'd like to suggest a Radeon 5xxx however they are overpriced atm as far as I'm concerned.
The gparted program is very handy, plus it's open source. I use it at work here with no problems! If you have issues loading the main part of it just run it in fail safe mode and it should work. Although the memtest part doesn't load the linux OS from what I've seen.

Bots trying to login to find a place for some illegal stuff.
Up to 1000s of this stupid login attempts / minute:
Nov 12 01:20:12 *********** proftpd[11441]: ***********.server4you.de (219.146.8.75[219.146.8.75]) - USER info2: no such user found from 219.146.8.75 [219.146.8.75] to ***********:21 Nov 12 01:20:12 *********** proftpd[11441]: ***********.server4you.de (219.146.8.75[219.146.8.75]) - mod_delay/0.5: delaying for 125 usecs Nov 12 01:20:12 *********** proftpd[11441]: ***********.server4you.de (219.146.8.75[219.146.8.75]) - mod_delay/0.5: delaying for 107 usecs Nov 12 01:20:13 *********** proftpd[11441]: ***********.server4you.de (219.146.8.75[219.146.8.75]) - no such user 'info2'
The annoying thing is, that if there are too many of these "grrr" bots, you might get lag on gameservers.

They are not so harmless as they seem. Sometimes it is necessary to shutdown all gameservers and reboot the whole machine to get rid of this. And the number of bots rises rapidly within the last few years. It's a sick world.
Since most folks here are doing some kickasslow low gravity maps, I was asking myself which is the best way to start ??
1- Start with a gravity volume & build from that or 2- Start a level & add gravity volume after ?
Now that Odedge as mention the sound issue with gravity volume, I don't know how to start another one... & I would like to make something that implies a change in gravity.

from my little experience and from what i heared from others (mick especially) and after verification of course it s more easy to add the grav from the start in world properties and if u need u can add grav volumes to the map to change the grav to normal (normal grav is default setting of grav volumes)
the only big deal for me was as as told to odedge to set the jumpads pathnodes targets and the timejump ; but like for all after some trys it go faster now ;)
????????? no this way u ll have right sounds mate it s if u use grav volumes that it fraq it....or i have understand all upside down again ;)
for botpathing no problem it s just the low gravity that affect some v special jumps more than the common ones ex: long distances with short elevation or very high jumps are hard to set but u always finish on a win ;)

When testing Diesalot's Tokara map, I asked that the proper footstep sounds be added (you know my issue with foot step sounds) and I believe he said he did. But when the final was released, all the sounds were the same.
Well, I used the same gravity setting as Tokara and added a Gravity volume to this map. After testing my map, there were no specific foot step sounds. I tested Babylon and there was a mix of them.
So, if you set your global Z gravity in the world properties, you can keep your specific footstep sounds. Once you are in a Gravity volume, you lose them.
I learned something new today.

"Well, make that another 15 minutes. When I removed my gravity volume and set the same value in my world properties, some of the jump pads area really off. But now I have my footstep sounds back."
....someone need to take his pills :p....but who ?
Since a long time, I had the feeling that my time on Epic isn't worth it. People are to lazy to post on my dedicated threads & are to cheap to say at least "thank you" for my tutorials. Only a few as post something so I appreciate there comments but it's like 1% of the peoples so...
I decide to register today on wordpress to have my own blog so I can centralize all my stuff in 1 spot without add to deals with stupid characters limitations & others annoying things. I just started to create the structure. It will be a great place for me to inform folks about everything, not only UT3 stuff.
I think I will eventually delete all my stuff on Epic like Stevie's corner, dedicated threads, tutorials leaving only the maps threads.
The new Stevie's corner spot will be there : http://stevelois.wordpress.com
Hope to see ya there folks since you can post :D

I hope you won't keep it in french over there. I can't understand a word :(
This is my dilemma...
Except mappers posting in English is useless. For the moment, I'll just rearrange the format & post in English. I'll be back in 3 hours so I'll continue to work on that after.

Yeah the epic forums are very quiet atm. Even the PS3 front has gone quiet now which is a shame as it's hard to get maps properly tested for the PS3. Even Herby is very quiet these days when it comes to getting maps on UT3mod.
I'll come here pretty much every day to see what yaz are up to but only occasionally check the epic threads these days.
I still wish Epic would release an official Assault mode rather than just state "all the functions to make assault maps are in the editor". Bringing back assault will generate more interest as there was a big fanbase behind it and I think it was a big cop-out on their behalf to ignore that game type. Also having better gravity would improve the game tenfold so we can make very interesting/unique levels where gravity could be flipped at will....
UT3 feels like it was purely made to show off their new game engine with no real thought into how they could bring UT to a new level of gaming experience....
Thinking about it I wonder if they'll ever release another UT after the big screwup on this one.
For me UT editor is probably the easiest to use in most games so I'll stick with it until another friendly editor comes along.... hint hint ID's tech5 engine...
I don't really understand why you would keep it in french, sure it's the language you normally speak. But if you keep it in english instead, everyone (almost) will be able to read what you're writing. I for one would be very disappointed if I'm not going to be able to read it :\

+1 to that ;)
@steve: i have same feeling as you about epics silence (the forum and the Epics guys themselves)
not sure to see what s"your target" with a "stevies" blog as you told me some weeks ago that what was important for you was to have your corner on a populated place( not that i dont believe that u ll not succed to make it successful)
imho what is killing more the ut3 community than the rest is the individual way that seem to be generalized:
-peeps ask feedback but dont provide feedback themselves ( the cbp experience shows it...nothing had makes me more happy than a little comment on our maps here on UOF....but nothing.....looks like we are nothing!)
-sometimes peeps told me that i am too polite and that i say too often "thx" or "srry" but i prefer too many than not enough! and nothing makes me more angry than to post a feedback and to get arrogant or agressive answer or worst no answer (last time was on greengiant!...this guy will never see anyword more from me on his maps!)
- and that new fashion that push peeps to write beta feedback in final section and nothing in beta one! what a lack of respect!
thats why i m happy to be here with you all ;)
i wish ya the best with your projekt and for sure i ll visit your blog...gl :)
I know some folks don't appreciate feedback. The good example is the greengiant map on Epic. I've reads all comments but since I spot the non respectful mappers 100 miles away (uncle Stevie here as gain experience along the years lol) I don't bother to post anything. Thrallala, you are very patient & kind mate ;)
TBH with you all, your the greatest feedback peeps I know mixing all forums together & this is a great compliment coming from me dudes because I respect you all mates & I'm proud to know you all.
Blitz, for my blog, yes I told you that I wanted my stuff to stay on epic since the traffic is the highest one comparing all forums. The thing is, I want all my stuff to be centralize in 1 spot and not on various threads in various places. Take a look at my structure on my blog & you will see what I mean. Also, no offense mate but the interface is imho nicer & all the editing tools are well made & more complete than all gaming forums. The blog also support RSS.
One thing that annoy me is the damn star system & THX God, there is no silly thing like that on my blog. Also, I will change my signature on forums so everybody will be able to follow my blabla more easily. There is peeps that don't browse various forums like we do & only refer of grabbing content on specific site like UTU, those peeps coming to my blog will be able to grab the same content & much more because my stuff will be listed in gaming instead of being splitted appart in various threads everywhere.
As for the language, the gaming section will stay in English. As for the rest (which non gamers don't get a damn anyway) I'll make it in French. But anyway, I started the thing only today, so give me time to adjust myself ;)
And don't worry, I'm not leaving anything, I'm just putting all my stuff in one place. The stuff I put here will stay. It's only for the new stuff that will be posted only on my blog but I don't have anything new to post anyway lol.
For what I put here, it will stay

Good to hear about that Steve. And yes I agree completely on you with greengiant, the map has potential but the mapper himself is not willing to do anything about it. And not saying what changes he's willing to adress and why he won't do the other changes doesn't really motivate me to continue testing for him.
Ahh the good 'ol star rating on Epic. I ussed to pretty much avoid maps with 1 or 2 stars but these days I'll check some maps out. Fragtastic said it right (a while back) in that there almost seems to be peeps who just go to every thread and give it a 1 star rating to drag them all down....
yes i have note that and what is funny is that they seem very reactive....it took the guy less than 3 minutes to paste a "2 star" on my dolmen topic...thx mick btw for saving my honnor!(lol...jk...i dont care so it s obvious!) so reactive that sometimes i ask me if it s not someone from epic....odd...
