I'm pretty excited about this. I'm a little worried about the new forums right now because it is a complete free for all. Hopefully things will settle down and progress can be made.

Almost had a heart attack today seeing Micheil Van Den Bos and Alexander Brandon post in the forums today. Saw your post in there B. To me, that is just freaking incredible! I still listen to their music all the time. Those guys are a HUGE part of what Unreal is to me. Almost makes me want to run out and get a tattoo on my belly biggrin

When I get enough free time this weekend I'll be making a post on the official forums to see if the devs can create some gravity actors for the new game.
I've drawn up some visual examples of how they could work. If the devs can do what I ask then it'll add a whole new dimension to the game!  wink

For those that might find this interesting! wink

 

Two screenies from the UT prototype:

It would appear from comments on the prototype, they've imported and tweaked the UT3 weapon assets.  There's no animation and I'm not even too sure what the maps are from.

Movement seems OK from the 1st revision!  They've implemented lift jumps and dodging so far.  I was never one to take advantage of wall dodging so my skillz are ****! doh

I'll have to say, even at this most earliest of stages, lighting is muuuuuuuuuch better than UT3 ever was.  Most of the weapon projectiles light the surrounding area as they move.

Screenies were taken from the current prototype that's available.

@ LPS

- Do you need to pay for a sub before you can D/L?

- i saw that the elemental Demo+ Engine have been compiled and uploaded;

i was wondering if the same was possible for UT.


- Also if person (a) pays for it in month 1, ....then person (b) buys the engine in 12 months time, does person (b) get 12months of stuff for 1 month fee?
- or do they have to pay for the other versions aswel. "4.2/4 .2, 4.3 "etc?


Part of me wants it now, part of me knows that it would take a couple of months to make a map anyway....

Subscriptions last for once month per payment.
Whatever you download in that month you can keep and use.
Therefore if you buy another month 12 months later then you will be able to grab the latest version of the engine along with whatever is still available on the marketplace.
I assume the same would be with the working version of the UT development project. Github has an app that will sync their folders locally, therefore while you have an active UE4 subscription, linked to Github, you can just sync the current version with your local machine then open it up in the editor!

Used an importer to get my Diabolical BSP into UE4!

I used this Tool Sly:

Basically you load your map in UT3 then export the BSP to .t3d.
Next you run the tool and choose your exported file.
Next adjust scaling. I used 1.8 which has come out roughly the right size.
Now click the convert button.(this may take a while, like 10 minutes)
Once finished load up UE4 and import the converted .t3d file. (initial importing into the editor may take a while too!)
NOTES:
This tool converts blocking volumes into BSP blocks so you will need to delete those in UE4!

There is a thread on the Epic forums where people are already converting the UT99 maps to UE4. There's already a very nice looking DM-Peak...but I can't find a DL link for it yet. cry

Thanks for the sources! Yeah, I saw Peak, pretty impressive how much the lighting does to such a simple polymess.
Means I can easily export my Temple map and load it into UE4... I think its layout is pretty neat, might work great with UT4 movement.

Did you encounter any BSP holes yet? It might be I'll finally be able to buy UE4 today (if my bank didn't act lazy...) and check it out myself *hypedhypedhypedhypedhyped*.
Try to go nuts with a brush and make something super complex!
They claimed it was a full, complete rewrite of the engine, I want to see how much they rewrote the buggy BSP and if they didn't just "copy" the old code, mwahaha.

Will you keep your map BSP only and only texture it now or do you plan on "enhancing" it?

I'm having no problems joining several servers with version 2267662 and v0.2.6 of UTLauncher. It's going to be hard to keep up with the rapid changes that is for sure!

well i m using version 2261617 and launcher V0.2.6....

edit: ok latest version is yours....yeah things are going fast...wow....but it told me (the game) that i was trying to join a server with an older version of the game....its fault !...lol....going to jump in tommorow ^^

 Yeah I'm guessing they are going to put out a new build at the end of every week.  That is pretty much what Raxxy was doing on the forums and it was working out pretty good.

ROFL !!!....can you believe this ?!! now i have the good versions... but i cant find a way to keybind my move keys( like i simply did it via the ini for the previous version)....it s automaticly rewritten at each game start by the game with the stock input.ini....azerty is uberpowned by qwerty +.+

 Not sure if you've tried the latest builds B.  They now have a keybinder in the menu. You do have to do it again for every new weekly build but it's worth it.

 It is quite amazing really that it's rocking this hard so early. Did you get a chance to try DM-Temple? Had a few matches on that last night and it feels so Unreal-y even in its early form!

Are you using the Launcher to get it? That is by far the best way to get the game now since it forces you to update if you're out of date.

yup my friend i use it, lol... i tryed to run directly the .bat file but u have to enter servers ips to join... i tryed one map with several rooms and stairways in a sort of temple...lot of ZAxe on this one and lot of lifts and jumpads....cant remember the name of the map it was my first match and i was just landing ....lets say under pressure ....a very unrealish map indeed ...TDM is so fun , i didnt play a single DM in more than two years of hawken ...not that i m good or better now but it s fun how differently i see the game , biggest difference in hawken is the scoring system : u get points for the kills but also for the kills assists ....more fair imho and more encouraging the team work ...
you re 100% right, the job already done is simply amazing...

How do you get UT via the launcher?
I have Unreal Engine 4.6 installed and if I use that launcher it just loads the standard engine launcher, but I can't find UT anywhere on it. :(

 If you are logged in to the launcher, you should see the UT menu item as shown in this screenshot.  If you still don't see it, try logging into the forum and then reopen the launcher. I had the UT menu item disappear on me once but it was fixed by closing and reopening the launcher.

Got it working now.
Not sure what got it working though. One of two things.
I said yes on some forum thread about accepting the terms and conditions.
Otherwise the more likely fix is...
My default browser hadn't logged into forums.unrealtournament.com when the launcher was launched. I primarily use IE for web browsing but have FireFox set as the default browser so things like BF4 run OK. I opened FireFox, logged into the forums then opened the launcher and it appeared.

 exactly this...worked like Martin says at the first start....i only had a "bug" with the mice cursor when the first match have launch......but after shooting a first bullet the mice cursor was gone and i was able to moove my eyes with the mouse....lol....auto fix! nicely evolved since my first trys some weeks ago....lets say with my first flops haha

 i use IE too but my default browser is FireFox too....yeah my son liked to try....play and leave after a couple of games ...BF...even chrome wasnt ok to open the game

to play UT i use the launcher, it drives me to the same menu martin have in his screenshot, it seems that it autolog and i just have to click the play button and to pick a server in the list....
