DemeterIslandPreview.jpg

Status:
Beta3 PC only & ps3 when final

Players:
2 to 16

History:
Lost somewhere on the DeepSea: DemeterIsland, this old place was originaly built to test the SunWarriors bravoure. After the Skarj Conquest of the Solaris System; they transformed it to a fighting arena; the original temple is now a refuge and the bridge still a nice place to impale your opponent...

Descriptive:
A huge circular Arena "on" a small long canyon with a river at the bottom;some waterfall falling from gigantic rocks through a luxuriant vegetation ... bridges... a little temple and....a river
Z-Axis old style map..."flying monkeys" & "sniper addicts" paradise

Comments:
This is my third ut map ; i have built it for my wifey ;
we lived 8 month on reunion island in the indian ocean....waterfalls ,rocks & sea.... wink.gif
....thats why i changed the name....impalement bridge was a bit too violent lol

Credits:
big thx to Zedmaster for the music on demeterday and big thx to original author for "twilightBO" music on demeternight

Changes & To do:
Changes from Beta2:decoration adds ,botpathing revisted;new lighting and some minor changes to the gameplay; i have add some weapons and 2 jumpads;adjusted all what was pointed to me (particles, weapons & meshes) and hav add some blocking volumes

-still have to adjust some meshes & to add new ones to hide some bsp parts(lighthouse & rocks corridors)

-still to finish the sea visuals

-last "adjustments" on lighting

all comments; advices & feedback are welcome

BetaA version; wish there was a link to the night version, but here’s the day version review. Obviously, it needs a preview shot (but it’s a beta and that’s usually the last thing mappers do I think) and there is a problem with the stairs near the foot of the statue and there is a part in the water where we probably should not be, but this map should be finished already. Holy Moly! That’s a very large statue! I like the rocks/cliffs, gorge, vegetation, ambient sounds (crickets, birds, etc.), crystal caves, waterfalls, pagodas, snakes, bridges, skybox and spikes. The “temple” area with huge jumps and teleporters is a huge area that is just wild and fun. The bots are good and this must be a blast online. This is a map worth just exploring for a while on your own.:)

first.....aplologies i totally missed your post about the missing link to the night version....

thanks a lot for the review....yup.....it was a blast online (i remember some titan fights perfectly fiting to the weird sizing of the map...) but wow that s far ...

i never finished it because i was like a pandora box at this time....always adding new areas to the map....hm.... substracting in fact.....yeah it s a substractive map and i ve hit the limits of the editor here...no way to subbstract more without crashes at the rebuilt +.+
i restarted it from scratch in additive mode but it is/was to different to my tastes...so....

i ll try to add a link to the night version, if u want to have a look at it....i personnaly prefer night maps

thx again for the interrest , much appreciated mate

Just took a closer look at this map yesterday and I gotta say I kinda like the map idea. I love big maps, especially by being a little bit or pretty dynamic/complicated. However, I like taking a look at maps in the editor and so did I in this case. First of all, I saw you kinda tried to get the old mapping style done, like in e.g. UT2004, because there are a lot of substract brushes surrounding the actual map and these brushes are not really necessary, because your sphere does the job right. Also, your sphere looks a little bit tiny, but I'm not here to make **** talk or whatever the hell. All I wanna say is, you had the guts to try your luck and you done it. If you would try to finish this map, you should pay attention to the texture scale, because once textures gets too much stretched or scaled up, it kinda looks weird. Nevertheless, I had my fun playing this map and finding out, what you have done there.

exactly why i aborted it....overstretched textures on too big SMs and oversized map for the substractive method....i remember first time Seb Nova checked it from the ed he told me: here s all what u should never do in mapping.....lol

thanks for your comments, much appreciated mate

You're welcome, mate! However, as you know everyone starts small and trys to work his or her way up! Just don't give up, that's what I like to say. You can always learn something new, as long as you want. :)
